Botanical Garden El Huerto de las Flores

The ‘Huerto de las Flores’ botanical garden owes its existence to the efforts of the influential de Armas family. At the end of the 19th century, the family decided to create a place where they and their friends could plant the cuttings and seeds they had brought back from their travels around the world.

The Perfect Place to Meditate

You will be fascinated by the Surinam cherry, also known as pitanga, whose small red fruits are eaten in South America as juice or jam, or by the calabash tree, whose fruits grow directly from the trunk and branches and which is prized in Mexico for its healing properties.

But the charm of the Botanical Garden is not limited to its lush vegetation: Don Francisco de Armas turned his estate into a place of meditation, where famous Canarian poets of the time, such as Tomás Morales and Alonso Quesada, used to meet.

Thanks to the beauty of its gardens, the uniqueness of its plant species and the cultural history found in every corner, the ‘Huerto de las Flores’ is a place not to be missed, whether you’re a nature expert or simply a nature lover.
