Diving

Gran Canaria offers countless diving opportunities to suit the wide-ranging expectations of every diver. Among the shore dives, the following are particularly worth mentioning: El Cabrón, Sardina del Norte, Caleta, Punta Las Monjas and Las Canteras.

A genuine à la carte service

From the boat, you can explore volcanic formations and caves such as La Catedral, Las Cavernas de Isaac, La Baja San Fernando, El Veril, or the famous shipwrecks off Las Palmas, including El Kalai, Arona, Ángela Pando, Pequeño Kalai, Korsakov and El Narco. These wrecks — some of which are up to 110 metres long and none shorter than 50 metres — are one of the highlights for divers on the island. Divers who specialise in this type of wreck will certainly be fascinated by exploring, for example, the various sections of the Kalai’s engine room.

The island hosts the annual underwater photography competitions in Sardina del Norte and Puerto de Mogán, where renowned photographers from all over the world compete to capture the best images of the bizarre rock formations and the colourful marine life within them.

The DsDivers diving centre, based in Agaete, organises guided courses and dives in Agaete and Sardina del Norte, just a few kilometres from my home. An à la carte service is also available: after your introductory dive in El Patio swimming pool, you’ll be picked up from the house, taken to the dive site and, afterwards, have the chance to chat over an aperitif.
